Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated: 19/03/20

Dear Parents and Carers,

School closure announcement We have all been informed that school will be closed from Friday for the foreseeable future. This will be for all children except for those whose parents are key workers or for those who have been identified as vulnerable.

School closure for the majority of children

Whilst we understand and support this decision, it is with deep regret that we are forced to close our doors to the majority of our families. We do want to reassure you that whilst your children might not physically be in school we are looking to create remote links with you. We will send out guidance tomorrow to explain how work will be accessed and how you can continue to communicate effectively with staff whist the school is closed to most families.

School opening from Monday for children of key workers and vulnerable children

We are currently awaiting clarification from the Department for Education about who exactly falls into these 2 groups; initially it would seem that workers in the NHS, police, social care, and food industry delivery drivers are included as key workers. To get us started with planning how this is going to work, please could we ask you to email the school office at info@tillingbourne.surrey.sch.uk if you consider yourself to be a key worker and would need a place in the school from Monday. Please include your child’s name, teacher and/or class and your occupation so that we can clarify the position for you.

The parents of ‘vulnerable children’ seems to include children with an EHCP or whose family is receiving support from social service agencies. The school will contact the parents of these children directly by the end of the week to discuss their position for schooling next week.

These are very unchartered waters for us all. I would like to thank all of the staff for their professionalism and dedication in very unpredicatable times. I would also like to thank all of our parents and carers who have been highly supportive as we have had to quickly process the changing landscape, make decisions and provide you with clear information – you have supported us to do this. Thank you.

We will write to you again tomorrow with further explanations when we have the details. I am sure that we will be back to school together in the not too distant future ready to again move forward together in a more positive future.

Yours faithfully,

Jo Oliver
