Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated: 07/09/2020

Do not send your child to school if:

  • they are showing symptoms:
    • a temperature of 37.8 degrees or higher or they feel hot to touch on chest or back.
    • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
    • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
    •
  • someone in your household is showing symptoms

If your child or a household member has symptoms then:

  1. Self-isolate for at least 10 days from when symptoms started
  2. Arrange a test.  Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
  3. Get a test on-line at Gov_UK Test or Call 119 if you have problems using the internet.  If no tests are available online, do not call the helpline to get a test. No extra tests are available through the helpline.
  4. Inform the school of the results.

If the test is negative you can end your self-isolation and return to school work etc.

If the test is positive

  • Test results ARE positive but NO symptoms - self-isolate for at least 10 days, starting from the day the test was taken.
  • Test results ARE positive and you develop symptoms during this isolation period, restart your 10-day isolation from the day you developed symptoms.
    • If after 10 days you still have a temperature you should continue to self-isolate and seek medical advice.
    • You can stop with self-isolaing after 10 days if you only have a cough or loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Other members of household
    • Other household members need to stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days from the day when the first person in the household became ill or from the day their test was taken.
    • If anyone else in the household starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for at least 10 days from when their symptoms appear.
